Cover Stories, News OWS & the planned “endgame” for the U.S. By Doug Hagmann & Joseph Hagmann Are you baffled by the wording, timing and bipartisan support of recent legislation such as the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), the Expatriation Act, SOPA, PIPA and ACTA? Are you concerned over the enhancement of domestic security measures that appear to be targeting and incrementally ripping away the rights of law abiding American citizens? Are you concerned about the evolving DHS “domestic extremist” definitions? Have you wondered about the true origins of the financial crises and what appears to be a quickening of events in all sectors of our lives? How about the origins of the current “Occupy Movement?” When and why everything started? Who and what is to blame? If so, you’re not alone.
The U.S. Constitution’s Last Chance in 2012 By Daren Jonescu The prime suspects on the Department of Homeland Security’s domestic watchlist—that is to say, Americans who revere their founding documents, love their God-given liberty, and cherish their constitutionally-protected right to defend those documents and that liberty by any civilized means at their disposal—have had it tough recently. One of their nation’s two leading political factions has made plain its intention of destroying those documents and rescinding that liberty.
A UN Farce in Syria By Daniel Greenfield
If anyone is to blame for Russia and China’s vetoing of the Syria resolution in the UN Security Council, it’s Barack Obama. Last year the United States and the Arab League brought forward a No Fly Zone to the UN Security Council. Instead of enforcing a No Fly Zone, Obama, Cameron and Sarkozy instead used it as an excuse for an invasion and regime change. If Russia and China refused to take another plan from the same suspects at face value, the blame lies with an administration that abused a No Fly Zone.
The message from Russia and China is fairly clear. Fool me once, shame on you. But don’t even think about trying it twice.
A true test of true friendship By Online According to Canadian Foreign Minister John Baird, “Canada does not stand behind Israel; Canada stands shoulder to shoulder with Israel.”
And he’s right. Under Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s leadership, Canada has unquestionably assumed the mantle, previously held by the U.S., of “Israel’s best friend.”
Trip to “Cuban Paradise”
By Dr. Ileana Johnson Paugh Recently the Washington Post dedicated three pages of its travel section to Cuba. Apparently, since April last year, the Treasury Department’s Office of Asset Control has issued “people-to-people” licenses to organizations such as the National Trust for Historic Preservation and tour operators such as Friendly Planet and Insight Cuba. The current administration has decided last year to reinstate licenses to touring companies for trips to the communist island previously boycotted for 50 years.
Not If, But When By Alan Caruba
The Jewish sage, Hillel, said, “In a place where there are no men, strive to be a man.” This has been interpreted to mean that it is an obligation to stand against evil, even if other’s courage dissert them.
One doesn’t have to be a historian, a military strategist, a biblical scholar or any other credentialed expert to know that the question of the destruction of Iran’s nuclear and missile capabilities is not one of if, but when?
A Tale of Two Republican Parties By Daniel Greenfield There are two Republican parties. One is fairly liberal, it is hostile to the left but it also believes in stealing their thunder by adopting moderate versions of their policies.
Diabolical American Propaganda Storm Fogs Republic as 2012 Race Ticks Down By Kelly OConnell All societies coexist with elements of propaganda, in one form or another. Most typically, politicians use propaganda in order to win over the credulous, while anathematizing their enemies. Yet, the level of propaganda now regularly encountered in the United States is truly staggering. For a recent example consider how Obama presents himself as godlike when in a 2008 speech he promised:
Santorum and St. Thomas Versus the Catholic Bishops By Daren Jonescu In a recent interview with Hugh Hewitt, Rick Santorum, a practicing Catholic, levelled some very harsh words at the Conference of Catholic Bishops. While siding with the bishops’ recent opposition to President Obama’s imposition of abortion upon Catholic hospitals, Santorum nevertheless stated bluntly that the Church “had it coming.” Not only was Santorum right in saying so, but his words ought to initiate a more open public debate among Catholics regarding their leaders’ consistent support of the political Left. The fundamental issue here is not abortion, but rather Christianity’s position on the proper role of government.
A Wretch Like Me By Jimmy Reed If ever a man understood grace — the undeserved, unearned mercy and favor of God — it was John Newton. After several voyages across the Atlantic, aboard sailing ships packed with terrified human beings, bound to one another and soon to be bound for life to slave owners, he experienced the impact of God’s grace, became an evangelical Christian minister, and spent the rest of his life striving to repay God’s grace by preaching about the opposite of slavery: freedom through salvation.
American Politics, Freedom Obamacare Awakens a Sleeping Giant By Heritage Foundation It is a rare moment indeed when faith denominations of all stripes unite together in common cause, and it is rarer still when that cause is a political one, with a sole piece of legislation as its principal target. But when that law eviscerates the very foundation of religious liberty in America as protected under the First Amendment, it should not be surprising that Catholics and Jews, charismatic evangelical Christians, and mainline Lutherans alike find common cause in defense of their liberties.
‘U.S. will work with Israel in preventing a nuclear Iran’, said Obama By Jim Kouri President Barack Obama stated on Sunday that the United States will cooperate with the Israeli government in preventing Iran from joining the world’s “nuclear club.” But Obama quickly noted that a diplomatic solution to this nuclear crisis is still his goal.
Obama and the Last Campaigning SOTU: Believe it or not? By Dr. Phil Taverna We live in a time when we are blessed with all the internet and 24-hour news cycle programs and no public figure should be able to get away with lying.
I’m Outta Here By Alan Caruba Those who follow politics more intently than I will no doubt be able to identify why, specifically, various incumbent Senators and Representatives have decided not to run for office in the 2012 elections, but as of this writing 43 incumbents have made it known they will not seek reelection.
Georgia Supreme Court strikes assisted suicide law By National Right to Life Committee WASHINGTON – Citing a violation of First Amendment Rights, the Georgia State Supreme Court today struck the state’s 1994 law which classified as a felony anyone who “publicly advertises, offers or holds himself out as offering that he or she will intentionally and actively assist another person in the commission of suicide and commits any overt act to further that purpose.” The decision leaves Georgia with no protections against assisting suicide.
Red Light Cameras: Government’s ‘It’s For Public Safety’ Lie By Warner Todd Huston Red light cameras are a mixed bag across the USA. Big cities love them, small cities increasingly less. But one thing is universal where ever they are tried. The whole thing is about revenue generation, not public safety. Most city administrations try desperately to hide their greed behind hoary claims of safeguarding the public, but at least Toledo, Ohio has dispensed with some of that subterfuge and is admitting straight out that making money is a main goal.
On Obama’s watch By Frank Gaffney Jr. On February 5th, President Obama provided his own Super Sunday show. In some respects, it was almost as bizarre as Madonna’s performance at half time.
On Reagan’s Birthday, His Legacy Lives On By Heritage Foundation Today marks President Ronald Reagan’s 101st birthday. Born in Tampico, Illinois, Reagan made his journey west to Iowa as a radio broadcaster, then on to California to take Hollywood by storm. He crossed America as a spokesman for General Electric, and then — after discovering the import of conservative values — entered the political arena, where he would ultimately lead his fellow citizens out of a wilderness of self-doubt, helping the country come to see that it could be morning in America once again.
What Were They Thinking? By A.J. Cameron It appears the Lying King, Obama, and the HHS dominatrix, Kathleen Sebelius, have finally pushed the envelope on abortion and reproductive issues within ObamaCare beyond acceptable limits of their Left-leaning Catholic allies. It is fantastic that the Catholic Bishops are taking a moral stand against the reproductive agenda of the Lying King and the dominatrix, but this issue should never have gotten to this point. The allies find themselves in a very conflicted situation, a situation they helped to create. In their rush to ram through the social justice injustice agenda within ObamaCare, the Left-leaning Catholic allies allowed themselves to be deceived on the abortion issue by the master manipulator in the White House. The question is, with the documented track records of Obama and Sebelius, what were their Catholic allies thinking when they aligned themselves with these abortionistas?
Solitude and the City By Daniel Wiseman When one lives in New York – of the so called Tri-State area of cities and towns within the particular geography of New York State, New Jersey and Connecticut – masses of humanity each day move and engulf.
Canada Ontario trailing the world…Again By Online NORTH BAY – Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli says it’s time Ontario started paying attention to a growing global trend in green energy.
Recent CFP Columns Global Warming Engine Unexpectedly Slows By Online Preliminary reports from the Energy Information Administration’s “Annual Energy Outlook” (which will be fully published in April) suggest that any carbon crisis may not be quite as imminent as thought. Not so long ago, the EIA predicted [US] carbon emissions levels would rise by 37 percent between 2005 and 2025. The EIA — get this – now thinks that [US] CO2 emissions in 2025 will be 6 percent lower than they were in 2005. The difference between 37 percent growth and 6 percent decline is 43 percent. That is about the level of accuracy you could expect from a blind monkey throwing darts at a wall.—Walter Russell Mead, Via Meadia, 3 February 2012

Madigan carry case By Second Amendment Foundation BELLEVUE, WA - The Second Amendment Foundation immediately filed an appeal following dismissal of its challenge to Illinois statutes that prohibit the carrying of loaded firearms outside the home for personal protection in the case of Moore v. 100 British MPs Revolt Over Wind Farm Subsidies By Online David Cameron has been hit by a major protest by Conservative MPs over the Government’s backing for wind farms, The Sunday Telegraph can disclose. A total of 101 Tory MPs have written to the Prime Minister demanding that the £400 million-a-year subsidies paid to the “inefficient” onshore wind turbine industry are “dramatically cut”. The demands will be a headache for Ed Davey, the Liberal Democrat Energy Secretary, who joined the Cabinet on Friday when Chris Huhne resigned after being charged with perverting the course of justice. The Tory MPs, including several of the party’s rising stars as well as former ministers, say it is wrong that hard-pressed consumers must pay for the expansion of onshore wind power. A Downing Street spokesman said: “The Government has commissioned a review of subsidy levels and we are proposing a cut for onshore wind subsidies to take into account the fact that costs are coming down.”—Patrick Hennessy, The Sunday Telegraph, 5 February 2012
Remembering John B. Gordon’s 180th Birthday By Calvin E. Johnson Jr. Stephen D. Lee, Commander-in-Chief, United Confederate Veterans, said of John B. Gordon:
‘He was a devout and humble Christian Gentlemen. I know of no man more beloved in the South, and he was probably the most popular Southern man among the people of the North.’——-
February is Black History Month. It is also the birthday month of George Washington, our first president. And it is the birthday month of John Brown Gordon of Georgia.
Stalemate at the United Nations While The Slaughters Continue in Syria By Joseph A. Klein Nearly 6000 Syrians have died during the 10-month revolt against the regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, including hundreds of children. In one of the worst single day outbursts of violence, which occurred on February 3rd, the death toll from shelling by Syrian security forces in the city of Homs alone exceeded 200.
The Race for the White House after the Florida and Nevada Primaries By INSS The four races within the Republican Party in January 2012 were supposed to have reduced the number of contenders vying for the Republican presidential nomination, and indeed by February, only four are left standing: Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich, Rick Santorum, and Ron Paul. Those placing bets might say that the primaries are over and Mitt Romney is the candidate who will face President Obama in the November 2012 general elections.
Wind farms to wipe out California Condor By Online Save the Eagles International (STEI) issues a biodiversity warning concerning the California Condor. Having spent tens of millions of dollars of taxpayers’ money to recuperate the species, politicians are now allowing its habitat to be invaded by hundreds of wind turbines, of the kind that are killing 2,000 vultures a year in Spain (1). But if Spain has a population of 40,000 vultures, there are only 400 California condors, most of them likely to have close encounters with Kern County’s projected wind turbines at some point in their long lives - unless the birds are kept captive, as many presently are. The North-American Platform against Windpower (NA-PAW) and the World Council for Nature (WCFN) hereby join STEI in this warning.
