In Him - 2 Cor. 5:21
"In Him" is a very big phrase. We often ignore short phrases because we fail to see the significance of them. It takes the Holy Spirit to reveal what is significant to us at any given time and I believe "In Him" is one of the most significant phrases in the Bible. So let's explore just what "In Him" means.
Here is what I received when I meditated on this phrase: "In Him" means "In Christ" and I believe it means, in sync with Christ or at one with Christ. Remember, "Christ" means "The Anointed One and/or His Anointing". It is not Jesus' last name.
Here is the full text of our scripture for today: 2 Cor. 5:17-21 - 17Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! 18All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: 19that God was re
conciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting men's sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. 20We are therefore Christ's ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ's behalf: Be reconciled to God. 21God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
Verse twenty one says that God m
ade Christ, the Anointed One, to be sin for us. That is a staggering statement. He who had no sin and who was totally righteous became sin for us while on the cross so that we could become His righteousness. Now, if you are "In Christ" you are the righteousness of God. Mind boggling! The word righteous means: In right standing with God and the Greek also says "With nothing missing and nothing broken". Kenneth Copeland once put it this way. Did Jesus ever commit any sin? Did you ever commit any righteousness?
The point of all this is that our good deeds or what we would call good deeds are not acts that will make us righteous. They are just good deeds and, while good, they will never confer upon you "righteousness". Only Jesus can do that and He will, if you admit that you are a sinner and ask Him to forgive you. 1 John 1:9 - (KJV) If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
There are many other "In Hims" in the Bible. Rather than print them all out here I will give you a few scripture references. You can just click on the scriptures and read them for yourself.
Acts 17:28 - Col. 1:27 - Romans 8:10 - Ephesians 1:7 - 1 Cor. 1:30 - Romans 8:1
Just as we are "In Christ" He is "In the Father". See John 14:10 - Don't you believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words I speak are not my own, but my Father who lives in me does his work through me. (NLT)
Here is an example where being the "In crowd" is good. So, make sure you are "In Christ" and you will do good works out of a grateful heart rather than to try to earn your salvation.
