Edition 70 - August 24, 2012 The Harbinger by Jonathan Cahn
I want to tell you about a fascinating bu
t prophetic book, The Harbinger, that I heard about while watching Benny Hinn on TBN this week. First, though, let's go to the Merriam Webster Dictionary to define the word Harbinger: one that pioneers in or initiates a major change:precursor. One of the synonyms is "forewarning" and this is the definition that applies today.
This book, written by Messianic Rabbi, Jonathan Cahn, tells of the many similarities between God's dealings with ancient and even modern day Israel and America. Both countries have a call of God upon them and were called into being by God. America was dedicated to God on the shores of Virginia by Christian settlers in 1607 and the Christian flag was planted in the ground.
The harbinger or forewarning for America is to repent of her many sins such as abortion, promoting gay rights, and arrogance or pride. Prophetic words of coming judgments are often spoken unwittingly by people who do not know God. Most often these words are spoken by leaders at significant public places.
The terrorists attacks on the Twin Trade Towers in New York on 9/11/01 were only possible because God had removed his hand of protection for a while
because America had dealt treacherously with Israel; telling her she should give away her God given land to her enemies. See Joel 3:2 - I will gather all the nations and bring them down to the valley of Jehoshaphat. Then I will enter into judgment with them there On behalf of My people and My inheritance, Israel, whom they have scattered among the nations; and they have divided up My land.
The arrogance, as opposed to repentance, comes when a political leader stands in a public place and says "we will rebuild" without repenting and without God's help. This is exactly what John Edwards, the Democratic candidate for Vice President, said on 9/11/2004 at a prayer breakfast for the Congressional Black Caucus in Washington, DC. Here are his very
words: "The bricks have fallen, but we will build with dressed stones; the sycamores have been cut down, but we will put cedars in their place. Isaiah 9:10.
On September 12, 2001, Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle on a Joint Resolution of Condemnation of the attacks addressed the world as a representative and leader of America by saying "But there is a passage in the Bible from Isaiah that I think speaks to all of us at times such as this: The bricks have fallen down, but we will rebuild with dressed stone; the fig trees have been felled, but we will replace them with cedars".
What neither of them knew was this scripture was one of defiance, as the previous verse in Isaiah 9:9 points out, "All the people will know it--Ephraim and the inhabitants of Samaria--who say with pride and arrogance of heart". . . America, as a whole, has not repented and these statements reflect that. As an aside, where are these two men today. Tom Daschle was defeated three years later by John Thune (R) for the Senate. John Edwards was caught up in a scandal about fathering a child with his mistress, Rielle Hunter and using $1Million in campaign money to hide the affair. He is now in disgrace.
The message is: America needs to repent rather than to deny her sins and be arrogant in saying "We will rebuild with hewn stone and replace the Sycamores with Cedars'.
