Good News Digest Edition #73 - September 13, 2012 God's Plans for You - Jeremiah 29:11 Planning is a very important aspect of most people's lives. People plan for weddings, vacations, and business people plan their itineraries each week. Right now my wife's daughter is spending a lot of time along with her future daughter in-law planning her wedding to our grandson, Anthony, who is on his way back from Afghanistan. We will be attending that wedding on October 12. I'm sure it will be well done because there has been a lot of effort in planning it. The main question today is: did you know that God has great plans for you. In the scripture for today from Jeremiah 29:11 God is telling Israel that he has good plans for her. Here is what He said: For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. When the Lord does the planning you know it's going to be done right. The Lord had sent Israel into captivity in Babylon (Modern day Iraq) because of their individual and national sins but he promised after 70 years in captivity He would bring them back to Jerusalem. Here is part of what He said: Jeremiah 29:10-13 - 10This is what the Lord says: "When seventy years are completed for Babylon, I will come to you and fulfill my gracious promise to bring you back to this place. 11For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. 12Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. 13You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. Although the Lord was dealing with Israel in this scripture He also deals with us in the same way today, individually and nationally. If we, as a nation, continue on the same path of national sins we can expect the same exile to a Babylonian country. What do you think that the bombing of the Twin Towers on 9/11/01 was about and the killing of our Ambassador to Libya yesterday was about? It was caused by individual and national sins. However, if we repent we will not go into captivity. What we need to know, however, is that God has plans for us as stated in Jeremiah 29:11. He plans to prosper us and not to harm us and He plans to give us hope and a future. With this kind of a promise we should be encouraged to serve God out of a thankful heart. So commit to the Lord wholeheartedly and wait for Him to unveil His perfect plan for your life. Amen!
