Our scripture for today comes from Hebrews 1:1,2 - 1God, who at many times and in various manners spoke in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, 2Has in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he has appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds. God is making it crystal clear that His Son, Jesus, is the one who will speak to us. He also makes it clear that even though angels are mighty beings that He created they are not more important to Him than we are. In Hebrews 1:14 God, speaking of angels, says - Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister to them who shall be heirs of salvation? God created powerful angels just to "minister" to us "the heirs of salvation".
We are important to God so we need to learn how to hear from Him but the first thing we must do is turn off all the other voices, like the TV, radio, or even a spouse. We must get quiet in order to hear God. See Psalm 46:10 - Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth. We may hear a "still small voice" which is the Holy Spirit but not a loud shouting like the voice of Charlton Heston in the movie "The Ten Commandments" saying "MOSES"!
Most of the time, God will speak to us through His Word, the Bible. The Word is, of course, Jesus. See: John 1:1 - In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. If we pray before reading the Bible we may have and inner witness or urging that will guide us. Isaiah 30:21 - And your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, this is the way, walk you in it, when you turn to the right hand, and when you turn to the left.
Here is an example of how God speaks fromJob 33:14-16 - 14For God speaks again and again though people do not recognize it. 15He speaks in dreams, in visions of the night, when deep sleep falls on peoples they lie in their beds. 16He whispers in their ears and terrifies them with warnings.
The main thing to remember is that we must tune in to God like we would a radio station and expect to hear from him. It does take some practice but here is a caveat: God never says anything contrary to His Word, the Bible. So, it is important that we check out everything we think we hear against what the Bible says. FYI: You will always be more apt to hear from God while you are reading the Bible because, as He said, "The Word is God".
