Deb Fischer: Straight talk from the Sandhills

Dear friends ---

As most of us on the right work through stages of mourning, let me encourage those newer to the constitutional conservative team. Those on the left have been eroding our culture and politics for a long time. And it may take a long time to repair the damage, as too many Americans have been asleep to the ideological battle for decades.

This is definitely not the time to give up, although I certainly understand the temptation. If we give up because of this electoral loss, we turn our back on the military and the principled fighters who have stood for America's liberty, traditional values and national security. If any of you give up, you allow them to win even more than they won at the ballot box. So let's keep moving through the mourning process together.

Shhhhh. The elite media may not tell you but, contrary to the Democratic narrative, a conservative woman defeated former Democratic Gov. Bob Kerrey by 16 points in Nebraska. Deb Fischer beat two other Republicans in the primary and won the general election on principles, clarity and discipline, and by knowing Nebraska better than her opponent.

When she got to Washington, D.C., ABC's George Stephanopoulos wanted her to come on his show. Instead, she made her first interview with yours truly because, honestly, her compass is clear.
Refreshing! Leave it to a Nebraskan woman from my home state!

Sen.-elect Fischer is watching "lame duck" Congress as she builds her staff and adjusts to the demanding schedule in the nation's capitol. When she made time for me, she spoke of:
  • Fighting the urge to give up based on other electoral losses
  • The real cause of the "fiscal cliff"
  • What she learned from the campaign
  • The so-called Republican "war on women"
