Patriot News Digest A Prophetic Interpretation of the news My comments are in red and Italics: The Iron Lady dies at 87 - [Foxnews.com] Former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, an outspoken woman known to many as "The Iron Lady," has died at 87 after suffering a stroke. Thatcher led Britain's Conservatives to three election victories from 1979 to 1990, the longest continuous period in office by a British prime minister since the early 19th century. Alongside former U.S. President Ronald Reagan, Thatcher battled against communism and saw the Berlin Wall get torn down in 1989. It's interesting that a Russian reporter tagged her as the "Iron Lady" and that she assisted Ronald Reagan in bringing down the last remnants of the Iron Curtain, the Berlin wall. FYI: When I was in the Army, long before she came to power and while the wall was still up I was stationed in Berlin. Berlin was isolated from the rest of Germany at the time. After WWII Berlin was divided into four zones, 1)The American 2) The British 3)The French & 4)The Russian zones. In addition Berlin was located within the Russian zone of Germany, and also divided into four sectors, 1)The American 2) The British 3)The French & 4)The Russian sectors. You could not travel outside of Berlin without papers translated into Russian. We could travel freely between the American, British, & French sectors of Berlin but we were strictly forbidden to travel into the Russian sector. As another aside, the Brits were extremely friendly to us, their "transatlantic comrades" as one Brit put it to me. I know we are "kissing" cousins but I have always had a fondness for the Brits and Maggie Thatcher in particular. She was the Ronald Reagan of Britain, a true Conservative and we will miss The Iron Lady. |
