Good News Digest Prophetic Insights to Daily Living Edition #117 - July 17, 2013 I don't know if you like figs but they are very healthy and are available almost the year around. I love them and they taste the best in the form of Fig Newtons by Nabisco. I used to have a fig tree in one of the houses I owned and it was a very productive tree which produced figs twice a year. The only problem was to pick them before the birds got to them. Today's message is about how Jesus dealt with an unproductive fig tree. Our story starts with Mark 11:12 - 12The next day as they were leaving Bethany, Jesus was hungry. 13Seeing in the distance a fig tree in leaf, he went to find out if it had any fruit. When he reached it, he found nothing but leaves, because it was not the season for figs. 14Then he said to the tree, "May no one ever eat fruit from you again." And his disciples heard him say it. As a side note, have you ever wondered about Mark 11:1-6 the scriptures just prior to today's texts - where Jesus sends two of his disciples ahead and tells them to untie a colt and bring it to him and to also say "If anyone asks why are you doing this tell them the Lord needs it"? Why would those "standing near the colt" just take their word for it and let them have the colt? In these verses it says Jesus was approaching Bethany and I believe that the colt belonged to his close friend, Lazarus, who lived in Bethany, and who would have been happy to lend him the colt. Later, it says in verse 11 that Jesus returned to Bethany that night. He probably stayed at Lazarus' house and also returned the colt. The Bible is logical because the people were real.
