Rewrite of No Child Left Behind Passes House

The House passed the Student Success Act (SSA), a proposal sponsored by Representatives John Kline (R–MN) and Todd Rokita (R–IN) to rewrite the federal No Child Left Behind (NCLB) law. The proposal aims to fix some of NCLB’s most egregious policy flaws.

Watch
Senate Reaches Student Loan Interest Rate Deal, but There is Still Room for Fair Value Accounting

The Senate reached an agreement on student loan interest rates, which would set the undergraduate rate at 3.86% for the coming school year, after which interest rates will be pegged to the 10-year Treasury borrowing rate plus 2.05%. The policy agreement does not incorporate fair value accounting, which calculates market-risk in assessing the cost of Federal Student Loans.
