A Middle East Bridge to nowhere -- No Morsi --  Cry me a Bolivar -- The lowest of bars -- Tweet of Yesterday -- Today in North Korean News

1) A Middle East Bridge to nowhere -- John Kerry is all in with the Middle East peace process. Too bad so many Middle East experts think he is delusional. Jamie Weinstein and Charles Rollet report for TheDC:

"Try as you may, it isn't easy finding too many Middle East experts who think Secretary of State John Kerry's focus on Israeli-Palestinian peace makes much sense or has any chance of success. Since assuming the post of America's top diplomat in February, Kerry has visited the Middle East five times in hope of jump starting Israeli-Palestinian peace talks. Despite hours of talks with Israeli and Palestinian leaders with the goal of achieving significant progress towards peace by September, Kerry has not yet even persuaded Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas to meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. None of the four scholars who responded to Daily Caller inquiries could understand Kerry's emphasis on the conflict, and some were outright dismissive of the idea that he could broker any sort of solution. 'Kerry would have an easier time convincing Greenpeace to dine on whale steak and spotted owl than in brokering peace between Israel and Palestinians,' Michael Rubin, resident scholar at the American Enterprise Institute, told TheDC."
2.)  No Morsi -- One day Mohammed Morsi was Egyptian president --- and the next day he suddenly wasn't. The AP reports:

"Egypt’s first democratically elected president was overthrown by the militaryWednesday, ousted after just one year in office by the same kind of Arab Spring uprising that brought the Islamist leader to power. The armed forces announced they would install a temporary civilian government to replace Islamist President Mohammed Morsi, who denounced the action as a 'full coup' by the generals. They also suspended the Islamist-drafted constitution and called for new elections. Millions of anti-Morsi protesters around the country erupted in celebrations after the televised announcement by the army chief. Fireworks burst over crowds in Cairo’s Tahrir Square, where men and women danced, shouting, 'God is great' and 'Long live Egypt.'”

While TheDC Morning is a sworn enemy of the Muslim Brotherhood, it isn't so sure that the alternative will be so much better. Judging by the recent Egyptian elections, the number of true liberals in the country are very few. Perhaps exactly a few. Nonetheless, it is probably a good thing for the United States that the Muslim Brotherhood is no longer running the show. So good riddance.
3.) Cry me a Bolivar -- Bolivia is upset with the West. Be not afraid, be very not afraid. Eva Cover reports for TheDC:

"Bolivians are outraged after airport authorities landed Bolivian President Evo Morales for almost 14 hours in Austria Tuesday,  due to suspicions that National Security Agency whistle-blower Edward Snowden stowed away on the presidential plane. After being denied entry into French, Spanish, Italian and Portuguese airspace during a return flight from an energy conference in Moscow, pilots were forced to land the plane in Vienna. During the stop-over, Austrian authorities attempted to search the presidential jet for Snowden, but were stopped at the door, the Guardian reports. ... Morales’ landing has sparked Bolivian outrage, including demonstrations in front of European embassies in Latin American countries and calls by the Bolivian government to fight perceived imperialist advances. 'We want to say to the world that President Evo Morales, our president, the president of the Bolivians, presently is kidnapped in Europe; we want to say to the people of the world that President Evo Morales has been kidnapped by imperialism and is being held in Europe,' Garcia Linera announced."
4.) The lowest of bars -- Ted Cruz is a more popular presidential candidate than Rick Perry, TheDC's Katie McHugh reports:

"Lone Star State Republicans would sooner vote for Republican Sen. Ted Cruz than Gov. Rick Perry for president, a survey conducted by Public Policy Polling found on Wednesday.  The Canada-born Cruz leads all potential contenders in the 2016 race, with 27 percent of Texas Republicans naming him as their top choice for the GOP presidential nomination. The junior senator also enjoys a 42 percent approval rating overall, with 71 percent of Mitt Romney supporters backing him. Perry earned the support of only seven percent of Republicans looking for a 2016 nominee."

TheDC Morning suspects Tom Cruise may be a more popular candidate as well. Considering Perry's humiliating presidential campaign in 2012, there are probably a lot of people more popular than him as potential contenders. And for good reason.

5.) Tweet of Yesterday -- Noah Pollak: If you're just realizing the Muslim Brotherhood is full of anti-Semitic conspiracy theorists, you might be a DC Middle East expert
