Good News Digest Edition #72 - September 7, 2012 Is God supreme in America? If you ask the average American if God is supreme in America or if they believed in God they would, in all likelihood, say "Yes" but if you look at the actions or "Fruit" of the average American you would conclude the answer to be "No". Jesus said "By their fruit you shall know them". See: Matthew 7:16 - You shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? This video by Fox News tells the story of the removal of the word "God" from their platform by a major political party representing millions of Americans. They had to call for a voice vote at their convention in order to reinsert the word "God" into their platform and the statement that Jerusalem is the capitol of Israel. They voted three times before the Chair Person finally declared that the motion had passed. It was so close you could hardly distinguish between the yeas and the nays when they voted. After the Chair Person declared in favor of putting God back into the platform thousands booed and shook their fists at the Moderator. We can conclude that, for this political party at least, that God is not supreme and they want none of his ways. It is sad to observe the extent to which unregenerate people will go to rebel against their Maker. This calls to remembrance the yelling of the crowds at the inquest by Pontius Pilate when he offered to release Jesus because he found no fault in him. The crowd yelled "Crucify him, crucify him!" until Pilate released a murderer instead of Jesus. See John 19:15. "Here is your king," Pilate said to the Jews. But they shouted, "Take him away! Take him away! Crucify him!" "Shall I crucify your king?" Pilate asked. "We have no king but Caesar," the chief priests answered. Well, the crowds are still yelling "Crucify him!" because they do not want to feel guilty for their sins and it is obvious that "They have no king but Caesar". Somehow they think that if they ignore Jesus or the word "God" their sins will also be ignored. Sorry, Charlie (Charlie Tuna), it just doesn't work that way. So what is the solution to our dilemma? Do we just roll with the punch and hope for the best? No, of course not, we repent and watch God change (This is real hope and change) our nation. 2 Chronicles 7:14 is the scripture that applies: If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from theirwicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.It doesn't require that the unsaved humble themselves. It only requires those who are "Called by my name" Christians, to humble themselves.
